First Aid at the Scene
In addition to Driver CPC training, we offer a wide range of First Aid courses, Education courses and Mental Health First Aid courses.
This session takes a real world look at the issues faced by today’s professional commercial vehicle driver. We take an in depth look at how to stay safe on the roads and avoid unwanted interactions with other road users. We revisit some of the more significant rules and regulations of the road as a refresher for experienced drivers and an introduction to the industry for new and less experienced drivers. Topics covered include:
- The Highway Code
- Driver attitude to driving
- How accidents happen
- Managing our road risk
- Health and safety in the cab and on the road
- Safe loading
- Our perception of risk
- Keeping healthy
- Dealing with stress
Another of our modular sessions, with both sessions having awarding body status from Qualsafe awards and more importantly giving you seven hours DCPC accreditation.
The First Aid module is based on the Emergency First Aid at the Scene seven hour course and has been designed to give candidates a taster of First Aid and also is used as a refresher for the full course which, under new HSE guidelines, states that First Aid should be refreshed every year to keep up with industry best practice.
The manual handling session takes a practical look at keeping safe whilst carrying out manual handling tasks at work and includes an in depth look into some of the lesser known regulations in our industry that could catch us out. We also look at the employees and the employers obligations when carrying out manual handling tasks.
NB: both of the above sessions can be delivered accredited or non-accredited to your requirements (certificates issued for First Aid and Manual Handling on completion of practical tasks and multiple choice exams).
With so many rules and regulations to deal with as a commercial vehicle driver, it is easy to fall foul of them. With that in mind, we look at the rules and regulations that can affect us as commercial vehicle drivers on a daily basis. Topics covered include:
- Manual handling and how to avoid being injured at work
- The importance of complying with health and safety and safe systems of work
- Vulnerable road users and how to share the road with them
- The consequences of inappropriate speed
- Dealing with sleep disorders and driving whilst fatigued
- The use of mobile phones in the cab, incident reporting and at-scene safety, including Dangerous Goods (ADR) loads recognition
This modular course provides advice and information on many of the laws that bind us as commercial vehicle drivers. We have an in depth look at the Road Traffic Act and how non-compliance can impact on our safety and the safety of others.
Topics covered include:
- The pre use/defect check and construction & use
- Vehicle type approval
- The DfT safe loading approved code of practice
- The Road Traffic Act and The Highway Code
- For EU Drivers hours – we cover the basics of the legislation and the use of the tachograph, Transport WTD and the essentials such as break, driving, rest and double manned vehicles
This regulated and nationally recognised qualification provides learners with the opportunity to develop their understanding of the principles of safer manual handling.
Intended Audience
The Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling (RQF) qualification has been specifically designed for all employees to help raise their awareness of the risks associated with unsafe manual handling practices. It is also ideal for those who might have to carry out manual handling as part of their job such as handling deliveries, parcels and boxes.
Over a half day period, successful learners will develop a greater awareness of manual handling, including: common manual handling injuries, the safe movement principles, theory of safe manual handling principles and manual handling equipment. This session will take candidates through all of the crucial stages of being first on scene at a road traffic collision and which information to collect if involved.
We give advice on how to spot scam insurance claims, when to get the police involved, how to act at the scene and which information we need to collect.
The bulk of this session is based on the Level 3 Emergency First Aid qualification. We look at Dynamic Risk Assessment, when to get involved, how to keep safe and giving life saving basic First Aid at scene at home and in the workplace.
This qualification not only gives candidates 7 hours DCPC periodic training but also gives a new set of life skills that could potentially save lives.
Please note: Gaining the level 3 First Aid qualification involves practical tasks and a multiple choice exam and an extra cost of £10.00 for awarding body fee’s and certificates.

This approved seven hour Driver CPC session takes an in-depth look at the lifestyle changes we can make to ensure we stay healthy and the main causes of licence revocations for commercial vehicle drivers.
We look at how the heart works and the importance of staying heart healthy, diabetes and it’s causes, the importance of recognising and acting upon signs and symptoms of ill health, our obligations regarding our fitness to drive, the foods we eat and the importance of a healthy diet.
By the end of the session, candidates will be able to recognise foods that are harmful to health and make informed choices regarding diet and exercise, the effects of alcohol and smoking and how they affect the body and advice on how to reduce the risk of high blood pressure and stroke. Also within this session and as part of managing our risk and the safety of ourselves and others we look at the importance of carrying out thorough commercial vehicle pre-use checks and safe loading issues including the approved code of practice for loading, vehicle dynamics and the consequences of non compliance.
This seven-hour Driver CPC course is designed to give both drivers and traffic office supervisors a basic awareness of the Operator Licence and how non-compliance can affect the operators good standing.
The aim of the session is to give a greater understanding of the importance of maintaining a good OCRS score and the role the driver and traffic office staff can play and the contributions they can make to ensure total compliance with O licensing regulations.
